I am I Made Gunarta, known as Pak Dek. My life and work are rooted in Tri Hita Karana, the sacred Balinese philosophy of harmony with the Divine, community, and nature. As a traditional Balinese architect and community leader, I’ve shaped spaces like The Yoga Barn and Yogi’s Garden, celebrating Bali’s cultural richness and interconnected balance.

I come from a lineage of socially minded leaders. My maternal great-grandfather restored the Sacred Monkey Forest in 1955 as a village elder and architect. My grandfather, a master mask dancer and storyteller, and my uncles, skilled builders, deeply influenced my path. These traditions have shaped who I am today.

Though I studied economics, my passion has always been community service. I’ve held leadership roles in education and environmental planning, including a decade preserving natural resources like the Sacred Monkey Forest. Through the Youth Club, I’ve helped create spaces for cultural, sports, and environmental activities that strengthen our community.

In 2010, I led an initiative to promote sustainable tourism while respecting our traditions and environment. I co-founded Yayasan Kryasta Guna, inspiring Balinese youth to reconnect with their heritage, and launched impactful projects like AYO! Kita Bicara HIV & AIDS, raising teen awareness, and Bali Regreen, a bamboo reforestation initiative that has planted over 23,000 trees in impoverished areas near Mount Batur.

In 2016, I founded Yogi’s Garden, an organic farming initiative where I personally work the land, embodying the harmony of Tri Hita Karana. My mission has always been to nurture balance and sustainability, both in Bali and beyond.

At Helix, I share more about Tri Hita Karana, a hindu concept which translates as "three causes of happiness," in Balinese and Sanskrit, offering insights on cultivating personal harmony, strengthening communities, and deepening our connection with the environment in meaningful ways.
